Band Falls Short of Going to State

The band performed well at the Area UIL Marching Contest at Gregory Portland on Saturday, but fell short of being able to advance against the many outstanding bands in our Area.

On completion of the Marching Season, Mr. Fender said, "I am very proud of all the hard work the band students have done over the past three months.  The show has truly been a student-produced work with many of the visual ideas and much of the problem solving for handling awkward and difficult parts of the drill coming from the students.  Student leaders have stepped up huge all season and have pushed their sections to improve.  It really has been a joy to watch the production change and move forward since we began on July 27th."

He also added, "I want to give a huge shout-out to Coach Ruiz.  After spending the morning at the Regional XC meet, he brought the runners who were still with him to Gregory Portland to watch the band perform.  I see Coach Ruiz at every home football game, even though his XC team is “in season” and he is spending so much time with them.  Seeing him attending and supporting events other than his own is exemplary of the culture of Pirate Pride that we would love to see take root.  Thank you Coach Ruiz for going the extra mile and being there Saturday to support the band."
