Lytle ISD is committed to modifying the format of education and learning as we continue to develop our best practices and strategies for 21st Century Learning.  We hope to ingrain the philosophies and teachings of these programs into the everyday activities of our teachers and staff to focus their talents towards the interests of our students.  Our faculty spends time in professional development trainings and active discussions involving the following programs:

Working on the Work  - www.schlechtycenter.org

In 1988, Dr. Phillip C. Schlechty launched the Center for Leadership in School Reform as a means to provide high-quality and responsive support to those who are leading school reform efforts across the nation. A private nonprofit corporation with headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, the Schlechty Center, as it is now named, works with public school districts and their leaders to transform the existing system of rules,                   roles, and relationships that govern the way resources are used in schools to a system that is focused on the quality of work provided to students.

The Schlechty Center for Leadership in School Reform engages education leaders at the district, school, and classroom levels to:

  • Enhance the capacity of the district to support and sustain reform at the building and classroom levels.
  • Redesign schools so that they are more clearly focused on providing quality work for children and so that students become the true focus of all decisions made in schools.
  • Help teachers, parents, and others who work in schools and classrooms to better understand the characteristics of quality work for students, and ensuring that teachers have the tools and support         they need to design and deliver the highest-quality work for students.

In  doing so, the Schlechty Center provides strategic consultation and targeted advice to district leaders, technical assistance and training to school boards and educators at all levels, and tools to assist educators in transforming their environment to focus on better outcomes for students. The Schlechty Center                 continually draws on what it learns from its hands-on experience to invigorate its practice and inform the field of education reform.

Based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People®, The Leader in Me produces transformational results such as higher academic achievement, fewer discipline problems, and increased engagement among teachers and parents. Better yet, The Leader in Me equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to thrive in the 21st century economy.

"If you have a child’s heart, you have his head." - Flip Flippen    Truly remarkable outcomes are possible in a classroom where trust, respect, and caring relationships flourish. But creating such an environment is a tremendous challenge. Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a learning experience that provides tools for administrators, faculty and staff to build positive, productive, trusting relationships — among themselves and with their students. These processes can transform the classroom and campus environment, paving the way for high performance.

Participants will learn proven, repeatable skills that help:                       

  • Develop safe, trusting, self-managing classrooms

  • Improve classroom attendance by building students’ motivation and helping them take responsibility for their actions and performance

  • Decrease delinquent behaviors such as disruptive outbursts, violent acts, drug use and other risky behavior

  • Utilize the EXCEL Model™ and reinforce the role of emotional intelligence in teaching

  • Develop students’ empathy for diverse cultures and backgrounds
