The new federal nutrition standards present challenges and opportunities as school meals will include more fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and introduce other important changes to remain in compliance with State & Federal Regulations and Requirements.

To complement the work schools are doing to introduce the school meal changes, the Texas Department of Agriculture developed these materials for review. It includes resources to help schools create menus that meet the new standards, communicate the changes to stakeholders in the community and help students choose healthy food at school and at home.
