12-13-2013 Junior High One Act Play Takes 1st Place

We are very pleased to announce that our Junior high One Act Play students had a powerful presentation of ”The Rocking Horse Winner” on Friday at our contest meet!  The students received 1st place over all the other schools in the district. We also took top honors in highest individual awards that are given. Best Actress award went to Monique Covarrubias and Best Actor award was given to Patrick Garcia. (They had to maintain an English accent throughout the play)  All-Star cast award was given to Camryn Hoffman. (She had a difficult role of playing a male character along with an accent, and she’s only a 6th grader) Honorable Mention awards were given to Victoria Simmons and Amy Cain. All-Star crew award was given to Amaris Arroyo.

The judge was very impressed by the difficulty and professionalism presented in play that was performed by 11, 12, 13 and 14 year olds. He stated that although it was by far the most difficult play to present, it was also by far the best performance that day. He gave us many compliments and the students enjoyed hearing them after many weeks of hard practice.

The play is about a young boy who sacrifices his life to satisfy his mother’s greed.  He tries desperately to gain her love and attention through her love for money and materialism.

Come and watch our community performance on Thursday, Dec.19th at 6:30, at our high school auditorium. You will not be disappointed. Thank you everyone who has helped in any way, and especially to Mr. Mumme , who was so patient with us.
