10-21-2013 Lytle Pirate Marching Band Earns Superior Rating in Hondo

It was close - REALLY close, but at the Region 11 UIL Marching Contest in Hondo, the LHS Band was awarded the UIL's top music rating: Division One!  Two out of the three judges gave the band a 1st Division while the remaining judge called it a 2, but that was good enough to earn the overall Superior Rating.  Some pictures of the performance are attached.

The music and drill design this year combined for what was without question the most difficult show we have ever attempted.  I am so impressed and pleased by talent and hard work of these students.  They absolutely rose to the challenge, and at Saturday's contest, they put it all together and performed in a way that made be proud to be a Pirate!

Thanks to many who have given us their assistance along the way this year:  Randy Beard, Bubba Hibdon, Manuel Carrillo, Gary Oliver, Raymon VanCleave and others.
Thanks to those who attended the contest and cheered us on, including at least Mr. Mumme, Mr. Northcutt and Mrs. Hughes - possibly others that I did not see personally. Thanks to all of you who have had encouraging words for myself, my staff and the band members when needed it.

When the results are this close, every little thing along the way can be looked at as the thing that made the difference - thank you all so much for your help and support!
