Lady Pirates Basketball with Coach Wilson celebrating their fourth district championship.

What a night here in Lytle on Friday night, February 2, 2024, minus the storm that came through. The girls beat Hondo 79-38 and came out on fire in the first half, outscoring Hondo 23-8! Then they went cold and only scored six points in the second quarter. At the half, the coaches talked to the girls and reminded the Seniors what this game meant and that it could be their last game to play in this gym. It sank in because they dominated the second half outscoring Hondo 46-20! They had 18 steals and made Hondo commit 27 turnovers. This team continues to get better each week. The girls lost Amelia Martinez early in the first half, so they needed the bench to step up and that is what they did. Everyone is hoping to get her back for the playoffs. The girls are 9-0 in District and 25-7 for the year!

Game Stats:

  • Calyssa Sevier had a double double with 33 points, 9 rebounds, 11 assists, 5 deflections and 7 steals.
  • Katara Whitfield also had a double double scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 deflections, 4 steals and 1 block.

Lytle celebrated the Seniors before the game, these ladies have won District since 7th Grade and have 102 wins under their belt as of today. Two trips to the Regional Tourney and hoping for a return this year. So much History from these 4 girls! Everyone hopes to make so much more when the playoffs start next week! The Seniors also picked a special person to give their jersey to on Friday and presented it to that person to wear to the game that night. There were a lot of emotions on each delivery, thank you Lorri Migura for catching all the great memories!

Coach Wilson says, “We had the idea of the girls' numbers in frames with pictures from the games and I want to say, ‘Thank you to Lorri Migura for making them they come out so awesome.’ She stayed late on Friday night so the girls would have them after the game. She is a rockstar and we love her! Thank you to all the parents that helped decorate and to Ada for taking care of all the organizing so I could just Coach!”

The girls clinched the District Championship for a 4Peat and celebrated that on Friday night by cutting down the net with their parents and the community. The Lady Pirates will travel to Crystal City for the last District game February 6, 2024, then the start of playoffs the next week! The girls will find out who their opponent is tomorrow night! This first round will be a home and home game!

Congrats to the boys on their win Friday night and they have a big game next in Crystal City! Go Pirates!
