Varsity Boys Basketball Wins Bi-District and Moves on to Area

This past Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Pirates headed to Seguin High School to face the Karnes City Badgers for the Bi-District Championship and won 71-45. The Pirates came out playing a fast tempo offense to get the game going early. Junior Zach Perez came out scoring 6 straight points to lead the charge. The Pirates offense was unstoppable, scoring 18 points in the first quarter and 20 points in the second quarter for a 39-18 lead at half. The offense was led by Zach Perez scoring a team high 16 points and 5 assists. Freshman Sensation Seth Pierce had a quiet 14 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Jayden Perez scored 13 points and added 7 assists to his name. Finally, Sophomore Chase Guevara had a double-double, scoring 10 points and having 11 assists.  Defensively as a team, the Pirates forced 22 turnovers and had 14 steals. Every Pirate on the playoff roster was able to play and experience the playoff atmosphere. For Seniors Jayden Perez, Brandon Obando, Tristen Guevara, and Andrew Gonzales, this win solidified their hard work over the last three years. They had to sit and watch the last two years behind an incredibly talented State qualifying group waiting for their numbers to be called. With the pressure mounting on their backs to lead and continue the "Established Culture", these four met the challenge head on. As a coach, I couldn't be prouder of them meeting the expectations.

The Pirates will now face the District 25 Champion, the Edna Cowboys, this Friday, February 23, 2024, at 7:45 pm in Seguin for the second round of the playoffs. Come support the boys as they compete to move on to the third round. Go Pirates!
