Girls Varsity Basketball at the Regional Quarterfinals

What a year and what a season these 8 girls, the Fab 8 as I refer to them, have had representing Lytle High School and their community. They were the 4Peat District Champs, Bi District Champs and Area Champs for 2024. They collected three more gold balls for the trophy case. The last game in the Reginal Quarterfinals will not define who they are and take away from all the accomplishments that came along the way. The season ended last Tuesday night, February 20, 2024, as the Lady Pirates faced a good Columbus team. It felt like Columbus could not miss a basket the entire game. Switching up defenders, they tried pressing but just could not get closer than 10 points all night. Some games you play, and it just does not go your way, Tuesday was one of those nights. Columbus was just the better team, and the final score was 73-53. As the team walked into the locker-room it was very emotional. When you have been together since October as a TEAM spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with each other you form a special bond and these girls and Coaches, as well as parents have done just that. These girls were fun to watch and fun to Coach!

Coach Wilson’s reflections:

“We are losing 4 incredible Seniors from the program. Three of them are players and one being the best manager I could have ever had. I’m going to write separate reviews about my Seniors because they deserve to be recognized for all they have done and accomplished in the last four years! Lots of tears for me as I started writing it!

We will have returning Freshmen Zabella Garza and Alianna Cardenas, Sophomore Mona Perez and Juniors Valentina Ayala and Arianna Garcia! We will be rebuilding and hoping more girls want to be part of the program!”

Please congratulate these young ladies if you see them on a great season! We want to thank everyone for their support!

A big shoutout to Coach Tilley and Coach Martinez, the team could not ask for more loyal staff! Thank you, Ada!

As they say, all good things must end and this year’s good things have, BUT it was the ride of a lifetime that we will never forget, and we will hold the memories for a LIFETIME!

Girls basketball signing off until 2024-2025! Go Pirates!
