28-3A First Team All District

This past Friday, February 23, 2024, the Pirates lost in the second round of the playoffs to the Edna Cowboys 96-76. The Pirates played hard and were up by one going into the fourth quarter, but things went array. The Cowboys started the fourth by hitting four straight shots and the boys fell behind by nine; and couldn't close the lead. The Edna Cowboys, Senior heavy, were able to finish strong while it seemed that the Pirates just couldn't buy a basket during the fourth quarter after a great start. Freshman Phenom Seth Pierce led all scorers with 36 points and 11 rebounds in his second career playoff appearance. The coaches can't wait to see what the kid will accomplish by the time he's a Senior. Sophomore Chase Guevara had a big game as well breaking the Edna press with ease, and scoring 14 points with 10 assists, and two steals. Junior Zach Perez pitched in 14 points and 7 assists in the loss. With these three underclassmen, plus the addition of Sophomore Darius Garcia, the Pirates could have another special run next season!

As the 2023-24 season ended, The Young Pirates did the unexpected; winning 26 games, a Bi-District Championship, and other awards!

Senior Brandon Obando

Unanimous Defensive MVP, Brandon ObandoSays Coach Hernandez, “This one is special, let me share Brandon's story. Freshman year he doesn't play due to nagging injuries, Sophomore season Brandon gets cut by our staff but uses it as motivation. Junior year sits on the bench behind the talented State achieving Senior class. Finally, this year, his Senior year with all the adversity he faced, gets his moment, his season to play, and becomes a defensive menace! I'm so proud of this young man.”

Please congratulate these young men when you see them in the halls, school, or around town.
