The Lady Pirate Track & Field team traveled to Bandera on Thursday, February 29, 2024, to participate in their second Meet of this short track season. The team lost a lot of Senior leadership from last year, so this team is very young and low in numbers, but they come to work every day. They had some tough competition yesterday with Kerrville Tivy and San Marcos in attendance, but they battled, which led to plenty of Personal Records.
The team gets ready on this short week as they travel next to Dilley on Wednesday, March 6, 2024
Highlights:
After a great basketball season and 2 days of practice, Calyssa Sevier runs a 1:00.91 in the 400m and starts her season where she left off at Regionals last year, giving herself a chance at going back to the State Meet for Track in May, if she continues her progression.
Freshman Laleina Reveira, in her Varsity Track debut, finally settles in on her last and least favorite race and sets a Personal Record after two shaky races earlier.
In Bandera last year, on March 2, 2023, Sophomore Annika Robles ran a 15:12.48 in the 3200m. At last year’s District Meet on April 12, 2023, she finally broke the 15-minute barrier for 3200m. Last week she ran a 14:00 for 3200m just missing breaking the 14-minute barrier. YESTERDAY SHE RAN A 13:37.61. Says Coach Ruiz; “The joy she had after hearing her time was the best thing I saw ALL DAY and is the reason I keep going!”
