Varsity Tennis, Hector Anaya, at Uvalde 2-23-2024

Throughout this season, both the Junior Varsity and Varsity tennis teams have faced formidable opponents, each match presenting its own set of challenges. Despite the tough competition, both teams displayed remarkable resilience and determination.

From the late practices to the final showdowns, the players exhibited continuous improvement and unwavering commitment. They dedicated countless hours honing their skills, refining strategies, and fostering teamwork. The Junior Varsity really has come a long way and Varsity has been consistent in pinpointing their skills on the court. Aubrey Solis has been doing a fantastic job in Girls Singles on Junior Varsity. She has worked so hard to balance everything and has been making strides on the court. On Varsity, Joanna Plaza and Federico Reyes have been working spectacularly on the courts for Girls Singles and Boys Singles. Joanna returned as Varsity singles after winning District in Junior Varsity last year. And this is something new for Federico. Says Julie Cameron, "I am so proud of these three tennis players."

As the season progressed, the matches became increasingly intense, this year’s tournaments were focused on seeing Lytle’s District counterparts as much as possible and having all the teams push themselves to their limits. Whether it was battling through injuries, facing skilled adversaries, or navigating high-pressure situations, the players remained steadfast in their pursuit of victory. Especially the Junior Varsity Mixed Doubles of Freshmen Anthony Stewart & Lilly Evans and Rosendo Gonzalez & Juls Frausto. They have really taken to the courts and come such a long way in such a short time. On Varsity, it is no secret the Seniors Mixed Doubles of Hector Anaya & Lola Patino are in the hunt to compete at District level and beyond, but a new Mixed Doubles of Matt De La Fuente & Celeste Ramirez have been going strong, and giving people some great competition.

Despite their best efforts, both teams ultimately fell short of clinching the top spots. However, their performance throughout the season was nothing short of exemplary. Their hard work, perseverance, and sportsmanship were evident in every match they played. Many medals have been won and individually, team members have done very well. Sadly, too many unenforced errors have kept the team, as whole, out of the winner’s circle.

Last week, in Jourdanton, the Junior Varsity and Varsity Mixed Doubles emerged with well-deserved 3rd and 2nd place finishes. While they may not have claimed the championship title, their journey was filled with moments of triumph, camaraderie, and personal growth. Junior Varsity is coming back from a 2-7 set to win a tiebreaker at 8-8 (10-8). Varsity was down the first set to win the second and win the tiebreaker as well; 4-6, 6-2,(10-8).
